As an expert committee member, SPACE WALKER’s CTO, Dr. Yonemoto, contributed to the discussion on the establishment of a legal framework for international transportation by suborbital flights.

 

The Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute (JTTRI) has published the final report, “Study Group on Legal Issues Related to Intercontinental Transportation Businesses by Suborbital Flights and Other Methods (unofficial translation).” As an expert committee member, SPACE WALKER’s CTO, Dr. Koichi Yonemoto, provided expert knowledge of space transportation technology to this one-year study group, contributing to the discussion of the establishment of a legal framework for international transportation by suborbital flights.

The purpose of the study group was to offer recommendations on international legal systems, with a particular focus on international transportation using suborbital flights for civilian travel.

Numerous experts served on the committee, and as it contains important content that will serve as a foundation for the design of next-generation space transportation systems, the report is planned to be presented to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and other international forums for discussion.
